Exchange für lmu.de
Until now, mail addresses with the domain @lmu.de could only be used as forwarding addresses. However, this has changed: now a complete mailbox on Microsoft Exchange is also possible for all @lmu.de mail addresses, see also the LMU documentation: E-Mail-Dienst für Beschäftigte.
The changeover of all LMU accounts of LMU employees is to be completed by the end of 2023. The changeover will take place in several steps:
- LMU accounts that already had Exchange from Master Users (status: completed)
- LMU accounts that did not have an Exchange or standard mailbox and whose lmu.de forwarding redirects to another account or a mail address outside the LRZ mail systems (status: completed)
- LMU accounts whose owners have an LRZ account (second account) with Exchange permission (status: possible again - on demand)
- LMU accounts that have standard mail permission so far (status: in progress)
to 2. If you or your users would like to move the mail address(es) with the institute mail domain from the LRZ account (second account) to the LMU account and thus to the Exchange mailbox, please contact LRZ Service Desk at https://servicedesk.lrz.de/ql/create/9.
Alternatively, you can also carry out the move yourself together with the users (more time-consuming): How can the mailbox with faculty mail address be moved to the LMU account?

What changes for you as a Master User?
The migrating to the Exchange service for the lmu.de mail address brings the following change for you as a master user and thus some work savings:
- As a rule, it is no longer necessary to create an LRZ account in the IDM portal for new users, as the permission for the most important services (incl. Exchange) is already assigned to the LMU account.
- Importing an LMU account into an LRZ project is now also no longer necessary in many cases (which was previously necessary precisely because of the lack of mail/exchange permission).

A distinction must be made here between the constellation in which the persons concerned have previously used mail, i.e. where their incoming mails to the lmu.de address have previously been forwarded to. The users are/were therefore informed of the new options in a personalised e-mail "Important information on changes to the LMU and LRZ mail services":
