2. IBM Spectrum Protect (ISP) installieren
Note: For a detailed description on how to install ISP, please refer to the ISP Best Practice Guide (PDF)
Download the software
The initial page for downloading the software can be found here: Download ISP Client Software. There are links to all ISP client versions that have been released by IBM for download.
About once a year a new version, called x.x, is released by the manufacturer. In between there are minor version changes, denoted by x.x.x. While the minor version changes x.x.x are fully data compatible with each other, the versions x.x are usually only downward compatible.
For example, an ISP 8.1.4 client can access data written with an ISP 7.1 client, but not vice versa. Administrators who manage multiple platforms with ISP should therefore think twice before upgrading, or keep the platforms at the same version level.
We recommend to use the latest ISP version if there are no compelling reasons (e.g. the missing support of a very old operating system version in a new ISP client) to prevent the use of the latest version.
Software Installation
The installation package is usually available in the installation format specific to the platform, e.g. for Solaris as a package file, for AIX as an SMIT install image, for Linux as a tar or rpm file, or for Windows as an exe file.
Before unpacking or installing, you should always study the enclosed readme files. There you will also find information about the system requirements. Necessary patches and possible system parameter settings can and should be read before installation.
This often saves you from tedious troubleshooting should the software not work as expected.
Warning: The whole package contains much more features than you need. Under UNIX, gskcrypt, gskssl, TIVsm-API and TIVsm-BA must be installed.
Depending on the platform and version, the software is installed in different directories, e.g. for most Windows versions under
C:\Programs\tivoli\TSM\baclient
or for Linux under
/opt/tivoli/ISP/client/ba/bin
Unless there are compelling reasons not to do so, it is recommended to leave the installation path as it is.
Installationshinweis Unix (Bei Debian/Ubuntu .deb statt .rpm):
On Linux operating systems, you only need to install the following packages in this order:
- gskcrypt64-8.x.x.x.linux.x86_64.rpm und gskssl64-8.x.x.x.linux.x86_64.rpm
- TIVsm-API64.x86_64.rpm
- TIVsm-BA.x86_64.rpm
