Aufgaben der Master-User:innen

As a Master User you are responsible to administer the accounts and permissions for persons within your organisation. This includes:

  • Creation of personal accounts for new users:
    • When assigning new accounts, the contact details of the new users must also be entered. Please keep this data as up-to-date as possible, e.g. in case of name changes or new telephone numbers.
    • Please note: The creation of personal accounts may be restricted if the accounts are automatically transmitted from your institution's IDM system to the LRZ.
  • Creation of functional accounts for your institution:
    • Functional accounts are needed for functional e-mail addresses, for backup and archiving, or for the administration of web servers hosted by the LRZ.
    • Exchange e-mail lists are special functional accounts, in case your institution uses Microsoft Exchange as LRZ mail service.
  • Assignment and revocation of permissions for LRZ services according to the needs of your institution:
    • The LRZ service catalogue (German only) regulates which LRZ services your institution can use. This also lists which LRZ services are chargeable for your institution.
    • If you want to commission an LRZ service for the first time for your users, you must apply for a so-called quota for the respective service from your advisor or from the LRZ service desk. Your supervisor can advise you on availability, cost obligations and any further application steps.
  • Locking and deletion of accounts that are no longer required:
    • In this context, accounts are no longer required if the users concerned are no longer working at your institution or in cooperation with your institution.
    • Also, accounts are no longer required if they ares only used for personal reasons such as keeping e-mail addresses, mailbox contents or stored data.
  • Review of existing accounts and permissions:
    • Once a year, you or another master user must review the accounts and permissions in your project and lock or delete any accounts or permissions that are no longer required.
  • Setting new start passwords for users who have forgotten their passwords:
    • Please note that you cannot set passwords for accounts that have been transmitted from your institution to the LRZ. In this case, the IT support/service desk of your institution is responsible.
