1. Node beantragen

Registration of a computer for the use of ISP

The group of persons basically authorized to use the system is described in §2 of the LRZ usage guidelines. Another prerequisite is the acceptance of the guidelines for the use of the archive and backup system.

First of all, you need an LRZ ID in a project managed by a master user with the authorisation for "Backup and archiving", which the master user can set. Identifiers that are automatically assigned upon enrollment at TUM or LMU are not valid. With this identifier and the corresponding password please log in to the  DATWeb-Portal. (Attention: ABS Service and DATWeb are only accessible from the MWN network!) For each computer from which you want to store data in ISP, you can then apply for a node by clicking on the button "register node". You will then receive the access data and a password by e-mail.

Please change the password immediately after you have established contact with the server.

Attention: You should be aware that the combination node name / password gives access to all data stored under your node. Therefore, you should take special care to protect the password from unauthorized access.

Below is a brief explanation of the fields in the application form for a new ISP node.  If, despite everything, you still have questions, formulate your questions in an incident via the LRZ Servicedesk

Desired node name

Here you can enter a name under which you want to register your computer with us, usually this will be the computer name.

Estimated data volume to be backed up including the archive function of ISP in GB
Please enter the approximate data volume of your node here. Use the size of your computer's data partition, the size of your file systems, home directories, etc. as a guideline.
If you also want to use the archive function, enter the amount of data you want to store in the archive. Please note that the archive is not limited to three versions of a file and include this in your specification if necessary.

Desired backup type

Here you can specify whether you want to perform your backup manually (also includes "cron"-controlled backups on UNIX or the use of the scheduler provided by Microsoft ) or automatically, i.e. centrally controlled by our server and triggered at specified times.

If Automatic: please specify approximate time and day of week

If you have selected Automatic backup, please enter the approximate time when the backup should be performed. We will then enter your computer in the appropriate time slot for the backup. Also take into account the days of the week on which the backup is to be performed. For example, if you know that your computer is never switched on at the weekend, select "weekdays only".

Computer type

Specify whether the computer is a desktop system or a server, we need this information for licensing reasons.

Number of cores

If you are running a server system, please specify the total number of CPU cores.

Comments

Here you can add comments and remarks (e.g. justification for longer retention of inactive backup files, long-term archiving, etc.).

I agree with the operating rules

In order to use the archive and backup service, you must confirm to us that you are aware of the LRZ's usage guidelines and the guidelines for the use of the archive and backup system and for using ISP. In particular, you hereby bindingly confirm to us that you have taken note of and agree to the guidelines for data and node deletion.
