Welche Arten von LRZ-Kennungen gibt es?
The LRZ user administration distinguishes between the following 5 types of accounts:
- Personal accounts belong to exactly one user. The associated password may only be known to this person, so that the account can only be used by this person. A large part of the accounts at the LRZ are transferred ("synchronized") from the Munich universities to the LRZ, allowing users to use many LRZ services with their university account (see Accounts for LRZ Services).
- Functional accounts serve one or more users, simultaneously or sequentially over time, to perform a particular task or function. Examples of such functions are currently mainly:
- the administration of a web server at the LRZ
- the operation of function mail addresses, e.g. sekretariat@domain.
A functional account can have several so-called owners, who know the associated password and are also allowed to change it. In any case, one of these owners must be recorded in the IDM portal as the person responsible. - Course accounts are a special form of function accounts. They are used by other participants in each season of a course or internship. They are grouped into a course project, which can be requested as such by your institution for periodically held courses with changing participants.
- Partial-Admin ("Teiladmin") accounts are another special type of functional account. They are used for access to the TAP (ADS partial-admin portal) and for managing access rights in the LRZ Cloud Storage.
- Accounts on high-performance systems (SuperMUC-NG) are also grouped in separate projects. Special rules apply to these projects, which are not discussed further in this FAQ.
Note: Master users in projects for high-performance systems cannot assign accounts or authorizations to accounts; both must be requested separately and approved by the SuperMUC-NG Steering Committee (see Access and Login to SuperMUC-NG). - For guests who only need WLAN/WiFi access, appropriate WLAN guest accounts can be created. These are valid for a maximum of 7 days.
When setting up a new account, you must decide whether it is a personal account or a function account.
Course accounts and accounts on high-performance systems (SuperMUC-NG) can only be created by the respective LRZ advisor.
You can later convert personal accounts to functional accounts in the IDM portal under the menu item "View/modify Account" under "Account's owner", provided that the assigned service authorizations permit this. Other conversions are generally not possible.
