Was bedeutet die Fehlermeldung "Der Plattenplatz ist nicht ausreichend"?

In addition to file system services and file servers, access to some other LRZ platforms is also connected to a quota, i.e. an upper limit of the storage space that an account may occupy.

The project quota determines how much storage space is available to your entire project, for example 10 GB. As the master user, you are responsible for distributing this total storage space among the individual accounts in your project, so it is quite possible that some accounts will receive 2 GB of storage space, while others will only receive 1 GB. On the high-performance computers (Linux clusters and SuperMUC-NG) it is common to "overbook" the disk space, i.e. to grant all accounts in a project e.g. 10 GB. However, if the sum of the current disk occupancy of the individual accounts exceeds the project quota, it is still no longer possible to create and save new data.

When setting up a new account or editing the permissions of an existing account, it may now happen that you try to allocate more disk space to an account than the project quota allows. If the account or the project as a whole really needs so much storage space, inform your LRZ advisor that the storage space quota should be increased; see How can I apply for additional accounts and permissions for my project?

In order to use the available LRZ resources as cost-effectively as possible, it would be very helpful for us if you would not allocate a much higher quota to your accounts than the users really need. The display of how much disk space is currently being used by the individual accounts is intended to support you in this; see also How up-to-date is the information on disk space consumption?

If you reduce the quota of an account to such an extent that it is even below the current occupancy, the user's files are of course not automatically deleted immediately; however, the user can also no longer save files, which is particularly annoying if he/she is currently editing them. So if you really have too little storage space in your project, you had better request an increase in the project quota.
