102 - VMWare Backup
ISP for Virtual Environments (ISP4VE) is an integrated solution for virtual environment backup based on VMware ESX.
The main advantages/features of ISP4VE are:
- High-performance, block-incremental backup of virtual machines using VMware snapshots and change block tracking
- Backup VM metadata
- Restore both entire virtual machines and individual files of a VM from one and the same backup. Special requirements apply to Linux VMs
- Instant restore of VMs (machines can be started directly from the ISP backup and restored on the fly to the VMware datastore via vMotion)
- Application Level Integration for MSSQL and MS Exchange and Active Directory
This service is a special service, for which - unlike the standard client - you receive an extra product license from us and the data is stored on - compared to magnetic tapes - relatively expensive, but more performant hard disk systems.
To use this service, the following steps are usually required:
- You familiarize yourself with the product documentation
- You make your concrete requirements clear
- You register your wish via the LRZ Servicedesk
- In a personal conversation we clarify how/if we can best meet your requirements with our resources
- You get the ISP4VE software provided by us
- You install ISP4VE in your environment
- We perform the initial configuration of the ISP4VE client together via TeamViewer
