Linux Cluster: Temporary restrictions compiling software

Due to a recent security breach the login nodes of CoolMUC-4 had to be updated to the latest service pack version SLES 15.7. The compute nodes of CoolMUC-4 will be updated soon, but require some more preparation. In order to open the system for user access in the meantime, we kindly ask to consider the following restrictions:

  • Since the libc version on the login nodes is currently newer than on the compute nodes, newly compiled software will generally not run on the compute nodes.
  • Software compiled on the login nodes before the update can still be used on the compute nodes.
  • All software from the software stack ( module av ) will still run on the compute and login nodes.
  • If you need to recompile software before we can upgrade the compute nodes, please open a ticket at the service desk. We will provide you access to a dedicated compile node that can be reached from the login nodes and still holds the previous OS version SLES 15.6. Software compiled on this node will run on the compute node.

We will notify you as soon as the OS upgrade has been completed and the current setup is obsolete.
