DSS Understanding DSS on the LRZ AI Systems

Overview

As a user of LRZ AI systems, your data will be stored on a DSS Container dedicated to this service. Please note that this is an intermediate solution until we can make the whole DSS Container ecosystem available. This article provides some background information on how to use the DSS container.

Workflow and Usage

When you first request access to the LRZ AI System, LRZ staff will create an DSS invitation to access the LRZ AI System DSS Container pn69za-dss-0001. This will send you an email, containing a special link to the invitation acceptance page. In order to be able to access the container, you have to follow the link and accept the invitation.

In addition to that, LRZ staff will create you a dedicated directory in the container, that is only accessible by you. So for example if your user is a8899bp, there will be created the following directory for you /dss/dssfs03/pn69za/pn69za-dss-0001/a28899bp. This directory will be mapped into the resources accessible via the LRZ AI Systems LRZ AI Systems.  The default quota per user will be:

  • disk quota: 150 GB
  • file quota: 200.000 inodes

If you need you need more quota, please contact us, see below. But before doing so think about cleaning up your home directory first. The DSS container is not made to be a persistent storage place for user data, no backups will be made, consider it as volatile. The purpose of it is a kind of file staging mechanism, making the user data available to the  LRZ AI Systems.

In order to get data in and out of the DSS Container, you can simply use Globus Online as described here at any time.
