DSS Deprecation Notice 2: Management of Globus Sharing permissions directly via DSSWeb

Beginning with DSSWeb 1.7 we will no longer provide a direct integration of Globus Sharing permission management in DSSWeb. Instead, each Data Curator or Container Manager will be able to manage the Globus Sharing permissions on his/her Globus Sharing enabled containers via the vanilla Globus Sharing interface, provided directly by Globus. The reasons for this changes are:

  • The Globus Online sharing interface provides advanced features like sharing data with Globus Groups, or making a shared endpoint entirely public
  • Search for collaborators that already have a Globus Online Identity in order to prevent the unnecessary generation of E-Mail based Globus Identities
  • Prepare the way for High Assurance Shared Endpoints, which do not allow E-Mail identities but require that data is only shared with institutional identities from the EDUGain Federation

We will replace the Globus Sharing Interface in DSSWeb with a link to the Globus Online Sharing Interface. And document the changed procedures in our documentation, once version 1.7 has been released.
