Can I access my DSS container on a RVS node?

DSS containers can be accessed on most major LRZ systems and serve to process data in different locations.

To prepare a container for being accessible on the RVS systems will require some preparation and setup. The following steps need to be done by the container's data curator. Please contact your data curator to enable accessibility of the container on the RVS nodes!

What are the requirements for me to access a container on the RVS nodes?

The RVS nodes are configured to use the automounter for DSS containers. This means that most of the prerequisites should already be in place.

In order to access the container:

  • Make sure that your account has been invited by the data curator to the container and that you have accepted the invitation.
  • The data curator needs to add the RVS machines to the list of NFS exports by applying the LRZ Remote Visualisation container config.

I am the data curator or I want to tell my data curator how to export the container for the LRZ RVS. What do I do?

The LRZ provides a config for the RVS system. In order to apply it:

  1. Access your container. At the bottom of the DSS Container Details page you will find the option to add new configs:

  2. Select the "LRZ Remote Visualisation" config from the list and add it to the container.

I have added the config and exported the container. How do I access it on the RVS nodes now?

When the export is active the DSS container is added to the list of directories accessible by the RVS automounter. Please ask your data curator for the path including your projectID and containerID.

Open a terminal and access it via the command line:

node:~$ ls /dss
node:~$ ls /dss/dssfs<ID>/<projectID>/<projectID>-dss-<containerID>
<uID>  <otheruid>
node:~$ ls /dss
dssfs02 dsshome1

Please note that the system does not automatically mount every container exported for the LRZ RVS. Containers are mounted once they are accessed.
With the second ls command the automounter has been triggered and the DSS file system is accessible and will also show in the file system browser, when you follow its path from the root directory. You can add a bookmarks to your DSS folder for convenience.
