Background

Every two years, the LRZ publishes a new edition of the book “High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering”. These books give a comprehensive overview of the many interesting projects that have been conducted on the LRZ HPC resources (HLRB-II, SuperMUC, SuperMUC-NG). Previous editions of these books are available at http://www.lrz.de/services/compute/supermuc/magazinesbooks.

Important information

  • Who needs to write a report?
All projects that were granted budgets on SuperMUC are required to deliver such a report.
  • Time frame:
The SuperMUC report book is published every two years. The 2018 edition covered projects that were active in 2016 and 2017. The next book will be published in 2020, covering projects from 2018 and 2019.
  • Content of the report:
Please prepare a two page report, describing the most important results, aimed at a general audience.
Detailed information about the content and structure of the report are in the template files (see download section).
  • Reports for already finished projects:
You can write the 2-page report based on the final report you submitted.
  • Reports for on-going projects:
Please write a report about preliminary results. You can also describe the scientific question and set-up of your simulations.
  • Reports for multiple projects:
If you have several different projects, you can either write one report per project, or, you can write a combined two page report, covering all your projects.

We thank all users for their co-operation and are looking forward to reading about your interesting projects.

Download the template files

Please download the following zip archive:

SuperMUC-report-2018-guidelines-and-template_LRZ.zip:

This zip archive contains the template file to write your report (included are four different files of type odt, doc, docx, and PDF).
The template files also explain the content and structure of the report.
Use the odt file on Linux, Mac OS or Windows with LibreOffice.
Use the doc or docx file on MacOS or Windows with Microsoft Word.
If you prefer, you can also use LaTeX to create a PDF – use two columns and a 9pt Arial font to create a layout similar to the PDF in the template archive.

Upload your report

  1. Prepare one packed tar or zip file that includes:
    - your report as odt, doc, or docx file
    - individual high-resolution figures as png or jpg
    - a PDF version of your report
  2. Naming of the packed file:
Please use the following naming scheme: supermuc_report_<project-ids>.tgz (or .zip).
  3. URL for uploading:
    http://www.lrz.de/services/compute/supermuc/upload-report
Please choose “other article” as the type of document and enter the email address of the corresponding author.

Proof reading - two iterations

We will have two proof reading iterations. We will send proofs in PDF form to the corresponding author. Please coordinate the proof reading with your co-authors and send us corrections via email. Please specify the line-number and changes in your email. If you prefer, you can also include your comments directly in the PDF and email it to helmut DOT bruechle AT lrz DOT de.

How to get support

Do not hesitate to contact the editor helmut DOT bruechle AT lrz DOT de.

Or, you can submit a ticket via the Service-Desk at: http://www.lrz.de/services/compute/supermuc/contact_support/.

SuperMUC-NG Status and Results Workshop

Every two years, the LRZ hosts the HPC status and results workshop. From all reports received, we will invite about 30 projects to present their results at the workshop. The next workshop is planned for summer 2020.
