About once a year, a new version, designated x.x, is released by the manufacturer. In between, there are still minor version changes, designated x.x.x, and patches x.x.x.x. While the patches x.x.x are fully data compatible with each other, the versions x.x and x.x.x are usually only downward compatible. For example, you can use an ISP 7.1.0.0 client to access data written with an ISP 6.4.1.7 client, but not vice versa.
Note: Apple Silicon-based Macintoshs (M1 processor), also when using the conversion mechanism Rosetta 2, are not supported. For more information, visit the IBM Support website.
